First, I’d like to wish everyone a happy (belated) New Year.

Hopefully, the January blues will be on their way out, and you’ll be underway to getting back the ‘work momentum’ that you had before Christmas, but then lost after two weeks of too much food, drink and relaxation!

This month saw the launch of the new look A-List, now independent of Flippa and run exclusively from this site. If you’re new to the industry, or you didn’t receive the old A-List newsletter when it was part of Flippa, then now is probably the perfect time to get acquainted.

The A-List is a monthly round up of noteworthy businesses for sale typically, but not always, with a value above $10K. The newsletter was, for the last year, written by FlipFilter and owned by Flippa. Each write up not only describes the business and the opportunity on offer, but also discusses due diligence, how the company got where they were and what new buyers could do or change to improve the company.

If you’re in the market, it’s an invaluable heads up but likewise, even if you’re just looking, I hope it’s a practical and informative way to take a behind the scenes peek at what it takes to build a high value web business, and likewise, what due diligence you should be doing when you come to buy one.

In the February 2012 A-List we cover:

Market Updates from January 2012 – We look at why there’s so few sites listed and when it’s about to change, an emerging opportunity in ‘digital portfolio’ management and why UK SIPPS are becoming a popular way for outsiders to buy smaller internet businesses.

Top Sellers and Most Active – A look at what sold for the highest prices and what they had in common, what was most popular amongst lower end buyers and how single page Clickbank sites seem to be making a splash lately.

Internet Businesses for sale on review this month – Santorinicarhire.com, A multi-million dollar private affiliate portfolio, powerleadspro.com and a financial document template subscription business.

What’s Good – a round of the best of the web from last month – Amongst other gems we cover How to build a startup without learning code, the guy who sold his two year old company for $75 million and Why The Loooooong Sales Letter Works And Other Surprising Sales Hacks – with Ramit Sethi.

To receive the A-List for free you can sign up by clicking here.

If you’re a member of FlipFilter you’ll know that this is a no catch, no spam, no ‘buy my eBook style auto responder to follow’ type of deal! Just an email each month packed full of internet business goodness.

I’d like to thank Sitepoint (Flippa) who seem to remain true to their roots as a community business despite growing larger than some small Eastern European countries. Working with them over the last year was always a pleasure, and despite having the power to do so, they never influenced what I wrote in the A-List. This was important in allowing a lot of my immature frat boy humour to slip through the editorial net, but more important in keeping the integrity of the listings I wrote about. I hope this culture of openness continues as they continue to grow.
